Lo1: P1/M2 Explain the purpose of a personal media profile (new)

M2
An example of a personal media profile is an online or physical portfolio, this is a collection of work that you have done to prove why you are suitable for the university/job you are applying for. This is also a good chance for them to see your experience and what you are like. A portfolio can be made on the internet and on paper but if you want videos on the portfolio it's best to make the portfolio online. In a portfolio you can include your best work that you have created and the experience that you have made from either working or studying in the industry. If an employer sees your website link in your signature or on your resume, they’ll likely click on it to see what you’ve built. Seeing you’ve taken the time to build a website featuring work samples, recommendations, previous presentations and more will be a killer first impression. Along with this, when an employer Googles your name, your professional portfolio will be one of the first search results that pops up. A portfolio is a great way to make first impressions with employers and universities, and the ability to change content, videos, and pictures on your online portfolio will allow you to build a catalogue of work that will make you seem professional and outstanding for the job role you may be applying for. Another personal media profile is a CV. A CV is an overview of a person's experience and qualifications for a job opportunity. A CV also tells the employer a little about yourself in the personal summary of the CV so they know what you're like as a person. An advantage of a  CV is that it shows the employer where you have worked in the past and what experiences you have for the job opportunity. CV can also be uploaded on linkedin so employers can see your CV and see if you're right for the job and they will get in touch with you to see if you'd want to apply for the job. Personal media profiles are very useful for employers and higher education because they can see your experience and qualifications.  A filmmaker portfolio will be best to do online so employers and higher education can see what you have created.

A personal media profile is an effective way of identifying creatives strengths through an online portfolio of work, it is an ideal place much like a physical portfolio to show a variety of different projects which you have been working on with the potential aim of impressing an employer or admissions officer.  digital media profile can be accessed on multiple platforms and can be sent to employers easily through email, making it easily to show them your skills and previously made projects.
Having a digital portfolio on hand makes accessing opportunities such as freelance work and higher education places more viable as quickly you are able to show projects which you have worked upon which demonstrate the key skills they are looking for and also it is a good place to keep an up to date copy of your CV.

Examples of digital media portfolio

Both of these digital media portfolio's clearly present work across a variety of sectors underneath the digital media bracket, this portfolio would be used by potential employers to look at both creatives work and see how they have developed skills across a variety of different platforms. They include the skills they have learnt and projects that that they have made over the years. Both websites are easy to navigate and have clear and concise sections for Film , Photography and Web which shows both his/her eclectic skills set underneath the media bracket. They take advantage of heir own house style and use specific colour schemes to create a very pleasing website that showcases their work. They clearly follow the Accessibility laws as the websites are very easy to navigate and are very simple and minimalistic. When building my own personal portfolio I will ensure to take inspirations from these websites to make my product as professional as possible.

Examples of a physical portfolio

These examples of physical portfolios are also effective for the areas they are focussed upon, unlike the digital examples given above - these physical portfolios do not show a variety of work , instead they show a specific skill , in these cases graphic design and photography.

Physical portfolios, while great at showcasing how you have learnt many new skills and created incredible work, it limits you on editing it later on in life. Meaning you will need to create new portfolios that include your new work for future employers to look
at. While both a physical and digital portfolio serve the same purpose. A digital portfolio is ,in my opinion, a better alternative, as it is excellent in letting you edit each page and constantly add new projects and skills into it, showcasing a catalogue of different projects and skills that will ensure future employers see how well equipped you will be for a job application.

A personal media profile while either digital or physical, is the best way to showcase your work and talents. It is the best thing to bring into an interview as it will impress the employers and make you seem like a professional employee for the job.

The most effective thing about a digital portfolio is that it can be changed quickly and with ease adding or removing content to best suit the job you are applying for. The website can be quickly changed to suit a specific sector of work which will make you look more prepared for the interview and for the job. Plus, it can be fully portable thanks to modern technology, and can be sent to employers with ease through email. This means there will be no need to hand a physical copy to an employer as it can be sent or taken anywhere. However even with this, a digital portfolio may not have that personal touch or care that can be seen with a physical version of a portfolio. Which would be fully designed and built by you, which can show how hands on, or creative you can be towards employers. Even though building a website can also be a great way to showcase you skills to employers.

A physical portfolio is a fantastic way to showcase your ability to present work however limits you to what work you can show to your employers. This is because you cannot edit your portfolio once it has been completed, meaning that it can become very time consuming and pointless to create one. Also, it may be harder to showcase video or audio work within a physical copy, and if that is a huge part of your work it can become a problem. Even with this if you make print content, this can be shown easily within a physical portfolio as it can fit them in. So as a whole you can feel limited when creating this form of a portfolio, as it is pointless when showcasing film, audio work to employers
